Progress in Arla’s international industrial markets for milk powder and cheese and a further upturn in the US dollar and sterling have enabled Arla Foods to increase the payment to Danish and Swedish co-operative owners.

Arla Foods is raising the price paid to its co-operative owners by 15 øre with effect from 31 May, 2010. As a result, the Arla price will be 230.4 Danish øre per kg conventional milk and 288.3 Danish øre per kg organic milk. The decision was taken at a board meeting on 19 May.

“Arla is seeing strong development, which is confirmed by the strategy we have chosen. The increased payment will be welcome news for all our co-operative owners who have been under considerable pressure for some time,” says Chairman Ove Møberg.

Commenting on the reason for the increase Peder Tuborgh said:

”Arla’s earnings continue to be above budget. The international industrial market for milk powder and cheese is the main driver behind the entire dairy market. Coupled with increased revenues from the rise in the US dollar and the British pound, we are now in a position to raise the price paid to our owners significantly.”

Peder Tuborgh emphasises the importance of being present in several different markets with different types of products.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
