On Tuesday, the heads of divisions and staff functions were informed of the next stage of the redundancy plan announced in May 2003 aimed at cutting 600 full-time jobs over three years.

Beginning in the spring of 2003, all phase 1 redundancies (a total of 200) will have been implemented by October 1, 2004.

The second phase will comprise another 200 full-time jobs across divisions and staff functions. The decisions will be made no later than the August budget meetings.

Divisional Managers will be asked to present Group Management with a preliminary overview of the expected staff cuts during June. Managers of the staff functions will be called into separate meetings to discuss the cutbacks.

”We would ask the managers of the divisions and staff functions to be as constructive as possible,” says Deputy Managing Director Povl Krogsgaard, Arla Foods. “I expect that together, we will be able to find the best solutions.” Povl Krogsgaard is referring to the fact that in the first round, staff cuts were imposed by Management whereas this time the individual managers will be directly involved.
