The Wal-Mart-owned UK multiple, ASDA, is to source all its milk from Arla Foods UK plc.
In addition to the approx. 250 million litres Arla already supplies to ASDA, the UK’s second largest multiple, Arla will now sell a further 200 million litres. This is substantially more than Arla’s total supplies of liquid milk to the Danish market.
Neil Davidson, CEO, Arla Foods UK plc comments.
”We’re, of course, pleased with ASDA’s choice which was in part based on the construction of the new liquid milk dairy in Stourton.”
Together with five other liquid milk dairies, Stourton will produce the milk when deliveries to ASDA begin in October.
Arla Foods UK plc and the milk producer group, Arla Milk Partnership, will now embark on a programme aimed at selecting a group of dedicated milk suppliers to ASDA in order to meet the multiple’s wishes for a closer relationship with Arla’s British milk producers.
ASDA has emphasised the importance of Arla providing a more direct line from cow to consumers.
”Arla’s milk pool is one of the largest in Britain with farmers stretching from south west of England to the north east of Scotland. We will have full traceability along the entire production chain,” says Chris Brown, ASDA’s Agricultural Consultant.
