Mikhael Gorbatjov, the former president of the Soviet Union, visited Arla Foods’ stand at the Anuga Food Fair in Cologne on Tuesday.

During the visit, Gorbatjov enjoyed a cup of coffee and a conversation with Group Director Andreas Lundby.

“It was a bit of a coincidence that Gorbatjov visited our stand, ” said Andreas Lundby. ”He enquired about Arla Foods and asked whether we had plans to invest in Russia and we told him about our long-standing good relations between Denmark and Russia.”

Then the architect of Glasnost and Perestrojka continued his tour of the Anuga Fair leaving the Danes and Swedes at the Arla Foods’ stand with a clear feeling of having met a historical figure who was instrumental in opening the huge Russian market to exporters from across the world.
