Last week, Arla Foods Ingredients and Argentina’s largest cheese producer, Sancor, presented the two companies’ joint venture, Arla Foods Ingredients S.A, to Argentina’s Minister of Finance.

The joint company, AFISA, is planning to build a factory for the production of whey proteins in the Cordobá province. The USD 60 million project will be financed by the two companies in partnership with an international bank consortium led by Rabobank of Holland. Initial earthworks began in February and the factory is expected to start production in early 2002.
The new whey protein factory will process around 500,000 tons whey from Sancor’s cheese dairies into a variety of whey protein concentrates for the food and pharmaceutical industries. The products largely correspond to those that are currently produced at Danmark Protein and the majority will be sold in world markets.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Arla Foods is one of the leading players in the international dairy arena with well-known brands like Arla®, Lurpak®, Puck® and Castello®. Arla Foods is focused on providing good dairy nourishment from sustainable farming and operations and is also the world's largest manufacturer of organic dairy products.
