Arla Foods is intending to move its financial tasks to a new global financial service centre in Poland to increase efficiency and achieve greater savings. The proposal means that 140 jobs may be transferred to Gdansk from Viby, Stockholm and Leeds.

The new unit in Gdansk is intended to service the entire Arla Foods group in terms of accounts payable, credit control, internal trading and accounts. Masterdata and banking will also be included.

The proposal affects 75 positions in Viby, 40 in Leeds and 25 in Stockholm, all based in Global Business Services Finance (GBSFI), being moved to Poland. The colleagues potentially affected were informed by their managers on Wednesday.

The rationale behind the proposal

  • Support Arla Foods’ growth strategy in terms of speed and efficiency

  • Increase quality by applying best practice standard processes

  • Secure continuous access to financial competencies

  • Gain financial benefits

Under these proposals GBSFI's management will be based in Gdansk and a limited number of positions, about 45 to 50, will remain in Denmark, Sweden and the UK. The positions require: i.e. specific country knowledge, Danish or Swedish language skills, close proximity to customers and dairies and involvement in development projects.

Consultations with union representatives and meetings with the employees affected have started. The transfer is likely to be completed in 2009.
"We’ll do everything we can to consult and inform all our colleagues on these proposals,” says the head of GBSFI, Henrik Bak.

The intended relocation only affects Global Business Services Finance. The two strategic units Corporate Controlling & Accounting and Corporate Treasury & Finance and the financial functions within Arla Foods’ Business Groups will not be affected.
