Arla Foods has sold the remaining part of the buildings that belonged to the now defunct Borgholm Dairy on the island of Øland in Sweden for SEK 6.5 million to the energy company, Borgholm Energi. Borgholm Energi will take possession of the buildings on October 1.

The property comprises the former cheese production area, storage facilities and a combined heat and power plant, which already supplies parts of the town of Borgholm with district heating. A new bio incineration plant is planned for the site.

The storage facilities will be used as a cheese store for cheese from Arla Foods’ dairy in Kalmar for some time to come. The dairy’s production equipment has been sold to a milk producer group in Chile.
