The day before the official announcement of the planned Campina Arla Foods merger, the two German dairy groups Starmilch and Hochwald announced their intention to merge with effect from January 2005.

Expected to process 1.8 billion litres milk Starmilch/Hochwald will have an annual turnover of 1 billion euro making the new company Germany’s third largest dairy group after Nordmilch and Humana.

At a meeting last week, the Board of Representatives of Hochwald’s parent company, Erbeskopf Eifelperle eG. voted overwhelmingly (99.5%) in favour of the merger.
