MD Foods is flying the organic flag at the international food fair, Anuga '99. Besides showing a number of Danish and UK organic products, MD Foods' stand introduces visitors to a new organic range for the German market.

"The German retail sector is particularly interested in our organic cream cheese," explains Torben Olsen, the head of MD Foods' German subsidiary. "As MD is launching organic cheese under the well-known Buko brand, retailers are confident that there is a market for this type of product in Germany. We expect our first organic products to appear in the market in January."
The fact that a large branded company is entering the organic market and aiming to secure listings with the large multiples is a new development for German buyers. Until now, German consumers have mainly bought organic products from special shops or directly from the farmer.
According to a new report from Datamonitor, organic food products now account for approx. 4 per cent of German market which is set to grow by approximately 15 per cent per annum. In Denmark, organic products account for approx. 7 per cent.
MD's stand at Anuga has its own web site at: www.md-anuga.com.
