Germany’s two largest dairy groups join forces.
Nordmilch and Humana Milchunione, Germany’s two largest dairy companies, have agreed to merge with effect from January 1, 2005 according to German press reports. The deal, however, is subject to the approval of the German competition authorities.
With 6.6 billion kg milk received per annum, the new company will become Europe’s third largest dairy group after Arla Foods and France’s Lactalis.
Based in Northern Germany, Nordmilch and Humana are owned collectively by 18,000 German farmers. The merged company will have an annual turnover of approximately DKK 35 billion and will employ a workforce of 7,000.
