The British competition authorities have recently launched an investigation into market activities on dairy products primarily in Northern England.

The investigation is at an early stage and there is no presumption that any wrongdoing has taken place.

In this context Arla Foods plc was paid a visit by the Office of Fair Trading.

“The company has nothing to hide and will therefore cooperate fully with the investigation”, said Group Director Kim Nielsen, Arla Foods.

The investigation is separate to the investigation by Competition Commission, which is looking to see if the merger between Arla Foods plc and Express Dairies plc is in the public interest.

The Competition Commission will make its recommendation towards the end of September this year.
