Arla’s stand hands out 20,000 milk samples.

Salted butter from Arla Foods’ dairy in Settle was named the best Yorkshire product out of a wide range of dairy products at last week’s UK’s Yorkshire Show in Harrogate, where Arla Foods was awarded the Wensleydale Dairy Products trophy, the show’s second most prestigious award. The first prize went to Cropwell Bishop Creamery in Nottingham.

Settle Dairy also came first in two sub-categories while HT Webb, which was acquired by Arla Foods last November, received three top awards. Although HT Webb is primarily engaged in cheese imports, it also produces a small range of speciality cheeses.

20,000 samples

Arla Foods participated both as sponsor and exhibitor during the 3 day event. 20,000 samples of Cravendale long-life fresh milk were handed out despite the fact that the show’s visitors had no fewer than 500 stands to choose from.

Visiting milk producers also had the opportunity to talk to Ian Cameron, Head of the Farmers’ Secretariat at Arla Foods plc – a chance that was taken up by many.

”The stand gave us a neutral place to meet,” says Ian Cameron. “We were asked about the milk price, which is very low in the UK, and about milk transport and quality. And many farmers are eager to establish closer links to Arla Foods.”

The agricultural show been running since 1838.
