Whey agreement with Skånemejerier

Arla Foods and the Swedish dairy company, Skånemejerier, have signed a contract for licensed production of whey protein concentrate for Arla Foods.
The contract involves the processing of 140 million kg whey per year at Skånemejerier’s plant at Kristianstad, the centre of Skånemejerier’s cheese production. The whey protein concentrate will then be transferred to Danmark Protein in Nr. Vium for further processing into powder products for export.
The agreement, which runs for five years, has been approved by the Swedish competition authorities and the first consignment is scheduled to arrive at Nr. Vium next year.
"This is an opportunity to strengthen our position in the global markets for added value whey protein products,” said Group Director Bengt Mårtensson, Arla Foods.
