Trial production of whey proteins at Arla Foods Ingredients’ new factory in Argentina began last week and is expected to continue throughout May.

Full-scale production of a variety of whey protein concentrates for the food and pharmaceutical industries is expected to start in early June. All major construction work at the new factory is now complete and the first powder was produced on Friday April 19.

Staff at the new factory currently stand at 36 who are being trained by APV or Arla Foods’ partner, SanCor, which with an annual of 2 billion kg milk is Argentina’s largest dairy group. During the running-in period, three experts from Denmark Protein have been seconded to Argentina.

The new whey protein factory will process approx. 500,000 tons from SanCor’s 14 cheese dairies each year and will employ a workforce of 90. The factory is expected to have a turnover of DKK 250 million.
