For the second year running, Arla Foods has been chosen as the best foreign supplier of cheese to Europe’s largest cheese market, Germany.

The President of Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft, DLG, Philip Freiherr von dem Bussche, presents the Primax prize to Henrik Stigkær, Director of Arla Foods in Germany.

At the annual food exhibition, Intermopro in Düsseldorf, Arla Foods on Tuesday received the Primax Award as the winner of the cheese category in the international section of the prestigious event.
Arla Foods won the award in competition with leading dairy companies from nine countries, including traditional cheese producing nations such as France, Holland and Switzerland.

"Quality is a very important parameter in the German market – and once again it has been confirmed that our products have a very high level of quality,” said Henrik Stigkær, General Manager of Arla Foods’ German subsidiary. “This applies both to consumers and to our customers in the retail trade.”

In the overall competition between both German and foreign dairy companies, Arla Foods came second, repeating the Group’s achievement from last year. Overall winner was the German Karwendel with another German firm, Hochland, as third.

A total of 1,974 products from 268 dairy companies participated in the competition. Of these approximately 25% came from outside Germany.

The Primax prize is awarded by Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft, DLG, the independent agricultural organisation which carries out annual assessments of a range of agricultural products. The products are graded according to taste, appearance and packaging.

The best products win gold, silver and bronze medals. In the cheese category which comprises firm cheese, mould cheese, cream cheese and butter, Arla Foods secured a total of 66 medals - 36 gold,
28 silver and 2 bronze.

Among the Arla Foods’ brands, Buko achieved 11 medals, including 9 gold medals. Höhlenkäse, which is matured in Mønsted limestone caves, won one gold and one silver medal.
