The closure of the Disenå dairy in Norway is now complete and the dairy’s 18 employees have either secured work outside Arla Foods, taken their pensions or joined training programmes, etc.

”The process has gone better than we dared hope for,” said Executive Director Lars Poulsen, Arla Foods Norway. ”Everybody has shown a positive approach, even with regard to the closing down process itself and the subsequent clearing up.

Helping the dairy’s employees through a difficult situation has been quite a challenge, especially because of the dearth of local jobs. A positive dialogue with the dairy’s union, a significant effort by the dairy’s management and a fruitful partnership with a local consultancy, however, has brought the process to a successful conclusion.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Arla Foods is one of the leading players in the international dairy arena with well-known brands like Arla®, Lurpak®, Puck® and Castello®. Arla Foods is focused on providing good dairy nourishment from sustainable farming and operations and is also the world's largest manufacturer of organic dairy products.
