Argentina’s President Eduardo Alberto Duhalde is expected to open Arla Foods Ingredients’ new milk protein factory, 600 km northwest of Buenos Aires, on Tuesday.

”The President has agreed to be present at the inauguration ceremony. In view of his hectic schedule, however, we’ll not receive final confirmation until Tuesday,” said Jennifer Foster from Arla Foods Ingredients in Buenos Aires.

Some 250 invited guests and a significant number of press representatives are invited to the opening, a tour of the new factory and an official luncheon. Arla Foods’ Chairman Lars Lamberg and Deputy Chairman Knud Erik Jensen will attend together with Group Directors Finn Bitsch and Andreas Lundby, Divisional Director Peter Lauritzen and Business Area Director Henrik Andersen.

”We’re delighted that the new factory is now up and running,” said Peter Lauritzen. ”It means that we can offer a faster and more flexible service to our South American customers. The opening of the new factory reflects our global ambitions and the corresponding need to be closer to our customers.”

Alongside the opening of the milk protein plant, Arla Foods is launching a new application centre in Buenos Aires, where local customers can test milk protein concentrates from the new factory in their own products.
The first turf for the milk protein factory was cut on January 2001 and the construction phase was completed in the spring this year,

Part of a joint venture between Arla Foods and Argentina’s largest dairy group, SanCor, the factory processes whey from SanCor’s 14 cheese dairies. Annual annual production is expected to reach 8,000-10,000 tons milk proteins for the food and pharmaceutical industries.

During the summer the new milk protein factory in Argentina delivered its first consigments to customers. The factory is expected to operate at full capacity from early January.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
