The foot-and-mouth epidemic has led to some countries demanding proof that dairy products originating from within the EU have been heat-treated or fermented. Arla Foods’ product, however, fully conform to the required certification criteria.

“The demand for certification comes from countries that are not among our most important export markets,” said Group Director Andreas Lund. “Particularly in view of the newly confirmed outbreak in Holland, however, we’re doing our utmost to prevent the disease from reaching Denmark. An outbreak in Denmark would be particularly damaging to Arla Foods because of our substantial exports to third countries.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Arla Foods is one of the leading players in the international dairy arena with well-known brands like Arla®, Lurpak®, Puck® and Castello®. Arla Foods is focused on providing good dairy nourishment from sustainable farming and operations and is also the world's largest manufacturer of organic dairy products.
