Denmark’s national football team have made it to the World Cup finals next year by beating Iceland 6-0 at home on Saturday.

The victory was never in doubt after the Danes scored four goals in the first half with the sometimes-controversial Thomas Gravesen scoring twice. Despite the slower pace of the second 45 minutes, the Danish team managed to score another two goals.

The atmosphere in the Park Stadium was electric and just before the final whistle, the fans burst into the Danish national anthem.

The victory means that Denmark tops Group 3 with 22 points from 10 games. The Danish team’s place in the final round of the World Cup in Japan/Korea from May 31- June 30 2002 is, therefore secure.
The Czech Republic came second in Denmark’s group with a 6-0 victory over Bulgaria.
