Following Britain's Office of Fair Trading's approval of the merger between Arla and MD Foods, five countries have now approved the establishment of the new Arla Foods. After the UK, Germany, Denmark, Finland and Norway, only the competition authorities of Sweden and Greece have yet to submit their decision on the proposed merger.

After the two companies decided to join forces last year, the seven countries, in which Arla or MD Foods hold substantial market shares, were asked to approve the merger. The Danish competition authorities delivered their decision in favour of the merger in January, while Sweden's Competition Council is expected to announce its verdict before April 10.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Arla Foods is one of the leading players in the international dairy arena with well-known brands like Arla®, Lurpak®, Puck® and Castello®. Arla Foods is focused on providing good dairy nourishment from sustainable farming and operations and is also the world's largest manufacturer of organic dairy products.
