As part of Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark's state visit to the UK, the Prince Consort visited MD Foods' largest dairy in the UK, Oakthorpe Dairy, on February 17.

Landing by helicopter at a nearby school, the Prince and his retenue drove to the liquid milk dairy in Palmers Green, North London.

Staff at the dairy had put in a special effort to ensure that their workplace was in tip-top condition for the Prince's visit who, just after 9 am, walked into the dairy's newly refurbished administration office.

Following a short presentation of MD Foods and its activities in the UK by Group Director, Kim Nielsen, Prince Henrik and representatives from the media were given a tour of the dairy by Dairy Manager, Jon Wood.

Owing to the strict hygiene regulations, Prince Henrik, dressed in an elegant blue suit, was asked to put on white overalls:

"Is this the largest you have," asked the Prince with a grin who was given a bigger size.

45 minutes later, the royal guest exchanged his white overalls for his warm overcoat (in the correct size) and headed for the Millennium Dome where he was joined by Queen Margrethe.

During his tour of the factory, Prince Henrik unveiled a plaque to mark the dairy's most recent investment - a silo project which improves the quality of the milk and increases the dairy's capacity. The extension, part of a comprehensive upgrading of the dairy, makes Oakthorpe one of the most modern liquid milk dairies in Europe.
With its production of 300 million litres milk per year, Oakthorpe is MD Foods' largest dairy.
