Nordmilch, Germany's largest dairy company, is planning to merge with Adelbyer Nordfriesland Milch eG, which operates in an area just south of the Danish/German border. The merger means that Europe's fifth largest dairy company will now move even closer to the Danish market.

Although the German trade magazine LebensMittelzeitung's web edition reports that the merger will not formally take place until next year, the intention is for Nordmilch to start receiving Adelbyer's milk with immediate effect.
Adelbyer receives 380 million kg milk per year and has an annual turnover of DKK 1.1 billion.
The move brings Nordmilch's total milk volume to approximately DKK 4.7 billion kg per annum. In Denmark Nordmilch is known as a supplier of the Engholm range of dairy products to the leading supermarket chain, Dansk Supermarked.
