Arla Foods is represented in the business delegation which accompanies Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen on a visit to China from May 7. The visit will enable Arla Foods to meet potential importers of dairy products, as well as current contacts in the country.

"China's 50 per cent import duty makes our products unrealistically expensive," says Jannie Illum Jakobsen, Regional Export Manager, Arla Foods' Division Overseas. "However, import duties will be dramatically reduced when China joins the WTO. Then China will become a very interesting market."
Besides Lurpak, which already has a 35 per cent market share in the Hong-Kong area, Jannie Illum Jakobsen expects Chinese importers to focus initially on mild cheese types which are popular in Asia.

Arla Foods is an international dairy company owned by more than 8,400 farmers from Denmark, Sweden, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Arla Foods is one of the leading players in the international dairy arena with well-known brands like Arla®, Lurpak®, Puck® and Castello®. Arla Foods is focused on providing good dairy nourishment from sustainable farming and operations and is also the world's largest manufacturer of organic dairy products.
