The second stage of the DKK 40 million modernisation programme for Hoco, the milk powder plant in Holstebro, Denmark, is progressing rapidly. Following the installation of a new whey ultra filtration system last year as well as concentration machinery for permeat, the upgrading of caseinate production is forging ahead.

This stage involves the replacement of the existing three production lines for caseine by one line capable of processing 50 tons milk per hour. When completed, the new Hoco facilities will be able to handle 70 tons milk per hour for 22 hours. A new control room will also be built and the spray plant will be modernised.
Due to the construction activities, the Hoco plant will operate at half capacity until mid-December. By Christmas, however, production will run at full capacity. In the meantime, staff will attend 5 day environmental and quality courses. Due to expansion elsewhere in the plant, overall staff levels at Hoco will remain unaffected by the modernisation programme.
