The Swedish competition authorities have announced their intention to subject the proposed merger between MD Foods and Arla to an in-depth examination.
The announcement complies with Swedish law, which obliges the competition authorities to announce detailed examinations of proposed mergers within a month of receiving merger applications.
The competition authorities now have three months in which to consider the merger.
The decision about the in-depth examination is unrelated to Swedish authorities' possible referral of the merger to the EU. This option remains a possibility.
