Site QEHS Team Leader, Lockerbie

A key role reporting directly to the QEHS Manager working at our creamery in Lockerbie, one of the largest processors of milk in the UK converting over 500M litres of milk per annum into high quality fresh milk, cheese and whey products. You will be responsible for supporting the QEHS Manager in the day-to-day management of the QEHS function and all technical activities in order to ensure the relevant certifiable standards, customer demands and legislation.  This is a full time role, working Monday to Friday, but with the flexibility to provide support over a weekend when occasionally required.

Make an Impact

You will lead, coach, train, manage, develop and motivate your team of 8 Lab Technicians, and be responsible for defining and achieving resource requirements.  You will be a key player in ensuring that the highest factory standards are met in line with BRC and other customer requirements. In addition to lab duties you will deputise for the QEHS Manager in all Technical related areas. You will also be expected to make significant contributions to Technical project management, problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives, trend analysis and hygiene improvements.

We supply most of the major retailers and as such many audits are unannounced. You must ensure therefore that all documentation and processes required to comply with BRC, customer specific or internal standards are ready and of a high standard at all times. You will work with other Managers and Team Leaders to connect both Arla and site strategy to the tasks of the department. Relationships will also be key with QEHS colleagues at Head Office in order to ensure best practice across all Arla Dairies. Examples of further responsibilities include:

  • Budget management, quality, risk and resources within the laboratory
  • Continuously develops to acquire new knowledge in relation to QEHS and communicates this to team
  • Coordination of complaints and local crisis management within QEHS
  • Development and testing of new analysis methods

Experienced Quality Management Professional

Candidates will require a sound working knowledge of food manufacturing operations across the supply chain, preferably with dairy or chilled foods experience.   With previous management experience gained within a Quality/Technical department essential you will have strong leadership, coaching and development skills.  Candidates must also have a positive, organised and resilient approach to all aspects of their work, and to be able to maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders.  Strong IT skills and experience of MS Office essential, with any exposure to SAP being a benefit.
