Today, the dairy industry will write history when the world’s seven leading dairy organisations sign up to the Global Dairy Agenda for Action at the World Dairy Summit in Berlin.

Today, Arla Foods and other global dairy companies are signing an agreement that commits the world’s dairy industry to reducing CO2 emissions to help in the battle against global warming.

The dairy industry is also taking initial steps towards creating a joint system for measuring the carbon footprint of milk and other dairy products (i.e. CO2 accounts for individual products that enable consumers to compare products’ sustainability).

Easier to share knowledge and ideas
”This Agenda for Action represents an unprecedented level of cooperation across national borders and along the dairy supply chain. The global dairy community and its partners have pooled resources, knowledge and projects to achieve a more sustainable future,” says Arla Foods’ Deputy Managing Director Povl Krogsgaard, who will take part in the signing of the Global Dairy Agenda for Action in Berlin later today.

The agreement will make it easier for the world’s dairies to share knowledge and climate ideas within areas such as transport, energy consumption at dairies and farms, packaging and food waste. In addition, a coordinated effort will be made to supply farmers with relevant knowledge to reduce CO2 emissions from farms.

Global Dairy Agenda for Action will be signed by:

  • The European Dairy Association (EDA)
  • Eastern and Southern African Dairy Association (ESADA)
  • Pan-American Dairy Federation (FEPALE)
  • Global Dairy Platform (GDP)
  • International Dairy Federation (IDF)
  • International Federation of Agriculture Producers (IFAP)
  • Sustainable Agricultural Initiative Platform (SAI Platform)
