Borgholm Dairy to be closed next May
The closure date for Arla Foods’ cheese dairy in Øland off Sweden’s East coast has now been fixed for 30 May 2004. The dairy employs around 95 employees who produce approx 8,000 tons yellow cheese, milk powder and whey powder. Production of the large, round yellow cheeses will be transferred to Kalmar Dairy which will also take over powder production. Production of Gouda, however, will be moved to Falkenberg. The closure of Borgholm Mejeri is part of Arla Foods’ strategy and structural plan which was drawn up in 2001.
