Arla Foods Ingredients established a subsidiary in Mexico on November 1.

The first move into the Mexican market was taken in April 2004 when a representative office employing one sales representative was opened in Mexico City. The new subsidiary will employ two sales staff under the management of the former head of Cremo Cheese, Jens Kristian Møller.

“With our own company it will be easier to handle both imports of our products to the country as well as the logistics to customers,” says Ingredients’ Business Area Manager Henrik Andersen.

Sales in the Mexican market consists of milk proteins for, primarily, the dairy and bakery industries and, to an increasing extent, infant milk formula.

“This is a highly interesting market where we have gained a relatively good market share,” says Henrik Andersen.

The milk proteins are imported from Denmark or from Arla Foods’ joint venture with SanCor in Argentina. As capacity is now fully utilised at the Argentinian factory, which was established in 2002, production ex-pansion is now under consideration.
