Arla cheese comes out tops in Germany once again

For the fourth year in succession, Arla Foods has won the prestigious Primax prize as the best international cheese supplier in the German market.

As Germany is Arla Foods' largest export market, the award, which will be presented on Tuesday, September 28, is of no little significance and is given to the five best suppliers of dairy products in the German market. Arla Foods was the winner of the best international cheese supplier category.

Held each year, the award is organised by the independent German agricultural association, Deutsche Landswirtschaft-Gesellschaft, DLG, which also gives medals for dairy products of a particularly high quality.

The medals are awarded based on the outcome of special laboratory tests and are also dependent on a product’s flavour, appearance and packaging. The company whose products receive the highest marks wins the Primax prize.



The Primax prize is given to the five best suppliers of dairy products in the German market.

Arla Foods submitted 91 products, of which 64 won a gold medal, 18 won silver and one product bronze, i.e. 70% were gold medal winners. By comparison, 42% of the products submitted last year won gold.
The winning cheeses come from a broad range of Arla Foods' dairies in Denmark and Sweden.

“I’m extremely proud that we’ve won the Primax prize again and that the number of medals is the highest ever,” says Executive Director Henrik Stigkær, Arla Foods, Germany. “This is a recognition of the high quality we represent.”

He says that German consumers like quality assessments of food products and that the DLG medals are well recognised quality stamps. Arla Foods therefore actively uses the medals in its German marketing by reproducing them on cheese packaging.

Arla Foods’ turnover in Germany for the past financial year was DKK 2.7 billion.
