In 2012 Arla will invest in a stronger dairy structure, the processing of whey ingredients and more focus on growth markets, with the aim of increasing Arla’s international competitiveness. At the same time, many of the investments will generate CO2 and energy savings.

By agreeing on the terms for a joint production of yellow cheese with Molvest Group, Russia’s third largest dairy company, Arla is taking another significant strategic step into the Russian market. The Swedish Competition Authority has approved the merger of the two dairy cooperatives, Arla and Milko. This means that conditions are now in place for maintaining milk production in a large area of Sweden. The Swedish Competition Authority has stipulated, however, that Arla must sell certain Milko brands and the Milko dairy at Grådö in Dalarna (the Dalcarlia region).

Arla’s Board of Representatives has approved an amendment to the Articles of Association. This means that Arla is to adopt the international accounting standard IFRS. The decision entails some minor technical accounting changes and one major one: Arla will no longer amortise goodwill.
