Historic climate agreement in Berlin will make milk greener
September 24 th the dairy industry wrote history when the world’s seven leading dairy organisations signed up to the Global Dairy Agenda for Action at the World Dairy Summit in Berlin. |

Less waste means major savings
About five years ago, Gothenburg Dairy launched an campaign aimed at reducing production waste. The result was a 50 per cent cut in waste - and savings running into millions of kroner. |

Green energy brings Arla in Germany Closer to Nature
Arla's German office in Düsseldorf has switched on to "green power" - an eco-friendly initiative that has been awarded the "Closer to Nature" prize. |

Following a trial consumers chose the environmentally friendly milk carton for Harmonie® liquid milk in Denmark, which will result in a saving of 4,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. |

"A small action for a greener planet" is the message on the Yoggi Yalla!® bottle in Sweden. In May we launched our first climate neutral product - the drinking yoghurt Yoggi yalla!®.

Arla participated in an IDF (International Dairy Federation) project group which looked at one common carbon footprint standard within the dairy industry.

Swedish semi-skimmed milk cartons changed their look for one week. Arla supported the World Wildlife Fund's climate change initiative, Earth Hour, which encourages consumers to turn off their lights and remind world leaders of the need to take bold decisions in support of the environment.

This is the opinion of leading executives from the Danish food industry, in the Danish food magazine Levnedsmiddelbladet’s annual image survey, which ranked Arla Foods top in all categories and also the most environmentally- friendly food company.

Arla Foods ordered 193 new trucks from the Swedish truck manufacturer Scania. The order was for tankers for milk collection and trucks for distribution to retailers. The new trucks are more environmentally friendly.

In just one year, Arla Foods UK’s water consumption fell by 21.6 per cent and waste water by 17.7 per cent.

The food magazine, Food Manufacture named Arla Foods UK Food Manufacture Company of the Year in its annual review of the UK's best food companies. Arla’s environmental work is cited as one of the reasons.

For several years, Danish Hobro dairy centre paid considerable money to get rid of waste water. The dairy had to pay a special tax to the municipality that was proportional to the amount of organic material in the waste water. A biobooster installation helped to minimise this problem.

Arla Foods reduces energy consumption
Reduced energy consumption and greater efficiency is saving Arla Foods in Sweden in excess of 14 million Swedish krona per year, approx. USD 2 million. Arla Foods environmental plan for the years up to 2010 aims to reduce consumption of water and energy by five per cent. |
